Rebecca Lee Crumpler, an Unsung Hero
Rebecca Lee Crumpler accomplished being the first African American to write a book about medical discourses, and being the first African American to graduate medical school. Now you might be wondering who in the world is Rebecca Lee Crumpler? Well Rebecca Lee Crumpler is an unsung hero that you probably don’t know about. You see Rebecca was not treated kindly because she was an African American. Yet she did amazing things, but she wasn’t aware of some of the things that she did!
Rebecca was born in Delaware, but she grew up in Pennsylvania with her aunt. Rebecca was known for being the first black person to graduate medical school, and being the first black person to write a book about medical discourses. Rebecca’s birth date was February 8, 1831, and she died on March 9,1895 in Hyde Park, Boston, MA from fibroid tumors. Rebecca was an only child, and her parents were Absalom and Matilda Davis. Rebecca got married to Author Crumpler on May 25, 1865, and had one child named Lizzie Sinclair Crumpler. Lizzie was born in 1850. Rebecca is considered a hero because of her bravery to be the first physician in the U.S and took care of the less-fortunate.
Rebecca faced the challenge of being an African American. While she was in medical school she got treated very poorly, but she didn’t let that stop her from writing a book on medical discourses, and be the first black person to graduate from medical school. Some qualities Rebecca had to help her reach her goals was her bravery, because other black people were too scared, and she didn’t listen to what other people had to say about her. Most people would have dropped out because of what other people said about them, but Rebecca didn’t listen to them, and didn’t care what they said about her.
As you can see Rebecca accomplished a lot in only 64 years. She faced a lot of challenges on the way because she was an African American. She wasn’t even aware that she was the first African American to graduate medical school! She helped a lot of slaves with bad injuries, and took care of them. In the end Rebecca Lee Crumpler was an amazing person, and accomplished a lot of things, followed by helping other people.
